Up first on our roundup of the best road bikes under £1000 is the Brand-X Road Bike. The least expensive road bike on the list, this bike is probably going to be a good option if you don’t need speed as much.
The Brand-X road bike features an aluminium alloy frame, which is pretty typical for bikes in this price range. Not costing as much as carbon frames, this frame should nonetheless provide you with decent shock absorption and comfort of cycling.
The fork in this road bike is made from steel, which is a very durable material as you probably know. However, compared to carbon forks, this fork won’t be as shock-absorbent and comfortable on the road.
The drivetrain in this road bike is decent – the 2×7 Shimano drivetrain isn’t the most versatile out there, but it should allow you to cycle comfortably in various conditions. Unfortunately, the product description doesn’t mention the teeth configuration of the chainrings and cassettes, so it’s difficult to say how exactly they’ll perform.
The brakes here are Tektro calipers. While not as effective as disc brakes, caliper brakes are effective enough, and they allow this bike to stay on the relatively cheap side.
The Brand-X road bike also comes with 25c tyres, which is pretty typical of road bikes. This tyre width is well-balanced between comfort of cycling and speed (since it won’t produce as much drag as wider tyres), and it should be good enough for most people.

Up next on our list, we have the Vitus Zenium road bike, which is a great option if you are ready to pay the money for performance and cycling comfort.
The base of this road bike is its carbon frame which offers increased durability and shock absorption without making the bike too heavy. The Zenium road bike weighs just 9.7 kilograms, which is in the lower range of the bike weights we have today.
What further contributes to the comfort of this bike’s operation is the carbon front fork which is again great at absorbing shock.
The drivetrain here is Shimano Tiagra 4700 2×10 with its 20 total gear combinations. The chainset is sized at 50/34T, which is typical of quick road bikes. The rear cassette has 10 speeds and a 11-28 configuration, thanks to which this road bike should have plenty of gear adjustment for a wider variety of road conditions.
The brakes in the Vitus Zenium road bike are the TRP Spyre mechanical disc brakes. These brakes add to the price of this bike a little, but you are also getting better braking performance.
The included tyres are pretty interesting – they are the Vittorio Zaffiro 28c tyres. These tyres are pretty wide, which implies improved comfort of cycling – if you didn’t know, wider tyres tend to be kept underinflated compared to narrower tyres, which allows for better shock absorption.
On the other hand, the wider tyres are also less aerodynamic, so if you care about speed, then the stock tyres here may not be the best option for you.
But overall, the Vitus Zenium road bike is a solid option if you want a comfortable road bike with great all-around performance.

The GT GTR Elite road bike is priced close to the Vitus Zenium bike, but it’s quite different.
First of all, the frame here is made from aluminium alloy, which implies a little worse shock absorption than the carbon frame of the Vitus Zenium bike, albeit the durability should still be top-notch. The fork in this bike is made from carbon though, so the GTR Elite bike should still provide solid comfort on the road.
The drivetrain here is pretty interesting – it’s a Shimano 105 drivetrain with 22 gear combinations, from which 11 are rear and 2 are front. Thanks to the one additional rear gear, the GTR Elite bike will be a little more versatile on the road than the Zenium road bike.
That’s not all though – the rear cogs here are sized 11-32, with the largest gear having 32 teeth versus the 28 in the Zenium bike. If you didn’t know, in the rear cogs, the more teeth a gear has, the easier it is to turn. Due to this, this bike is going to be a little better uphill than the Zenium bike.
Unfortunately, no details on the tooth configuration of the front chainrings are provided, so we can’t really say how things are there.
The brakes here are TRP HY/RD cable-actuated hydro discs. Thanks to their hydraulic construction, these brakes should be noticeably more effective than the brakes in the Zenium road bike.
To wrap up, the GT GTR Elite road bike offers excellent braking and solid performance in various road conditions, including uphill. If these are the things you want in your road bike, then the GT GTR Elite bike may be the best option for you.

The Cube Attain road bike is priced between the Brand-X bike we reviewed at the beginning and the Zenium and GTR Elite bike. Not the most expensive bike on our list, it’s got plenty of things to boast.
The structure in this bike is similar to that in the GTR Elite – you are again getting an aluminium frame and a carbon fork. Thanks to these two components, this road bike should be pretty comfortable on the road. And yeah, this thing only weighs 9.5 kilograms.
Next comes the drivetrain, and it’s quite solid, albeit not as good as on pricier bikes. You get 2 gears in the front and 8 in the rear – 16 gear combinations in total.
The front chainrings here are sized 50/34T, which is the same as in the Zenium road bike. At the same time, the rear cogs have a 11-34 configuration. This configuration means that the largest rear cog here is larger than that of the GTR Elite bike, which implies that you are getting even better uphill performance.
The brakes in this road bike are the Shimano Claris BR-R2000 caliper brakes. They will offer good performance, but not as good as disc brakes.
Finally, for tyres, we have the Conti Ultra Sport 2 25c tyres. Not too wide and not too narrow, these tyres should provide decent comfort on the road and decent aerodynamics.
With that said, priced not too expensive, the Cube Attain road bike is a solid option if you want a versatile road bike (especially for going uphill) but don’t need out-of-this-world performance.

Finally, we have the Jareen Race Tiagra road bike by Wilier. If you care about comfort more than speed, then this road bike may be the best option for you.
The choice of frame materials is pretty surprising in this bike – you have an aluminium frame and an aluminium fork. Aluminium is certainly durable, but it’s not as good at absorbing vibrations as carbon. At the moment, it may seem that this road bike won’t be comfortable on the road, but bear with us.
This bike boasts the FSA VERO Pro drivetrain with a 32/48T front chainring and an 11-32 rear cassette. The rear configuration is familiar – it’s the same as in the GTR Elite bike, so you should get similar uphill performance from this bike. The front configuration is a bit slower though since the chainrings have fewer teeth.
The brakes here are excellent – you are getting Shimano BR-RS405 hydraulic disc brakes that offer great braking performance, albeit for a higher price.
But perhaps the most remarkable thing in this road bike is the tyres – you are getting Kenda Happy Medium 700x40c tyres. These tyres are the widest on the list, which means that they are going to be the most comfortable thanks to their shock-absorbing performance. Not only that, but the extra-wide tyres will compensate for the lack of shock absorption in the frame!
In the end, the Jareen Race Tiagra road bike sacrifices speed and aerodynamics for comfort – that’s how we would characterize it. If comfort is exactly what you want, then consider choosing this road bike!
